Customer Service

Customer service is one of the biggest parts of being a sucess in online selling. If you do not provide good customer service, then your customers will not come back. Be sure to ship your items quickly, but do not rush, make sure packaging is safe and secure. Be friendly, and make the buyer aware when the item is shipped, and if there is tracking make sure they know the tracking number. Be sure to describe your items correctly, as this is a very common complaint among online buyers. Be detailed, but do not be too long because people do not take the time to read too wordy descriptions. Be sure to be honest, because if you aren't, you will receive negative feedback.

 

Pictures and Photos

Be sure that all photos are clear, precise, and of the correct item. Many times I come across an item where the titles says one thing, and the picture is of something else. Make sure the photos are professional, and clear as the better the photo, the more confident the person is knowing the exact condition of the item they are about to purchase. To avoid site fees, try free photo hosting, I reccomend Photobucket.

 

Shipping

Always ship items ASAP. Buyers like to receive their items fast, this leaves them happy, which results in second time customers. Try to calculate shipping before listing an item for sale, to avoid undercharging and extreme overcharging. Offer insurance, but do not make it mandatory, as this may cause you to lose customers. Be sure to clearly state the shipping method, the processing time, and how long it will approximately take for the buyer to receive.

 

Fees

Be sure you are aware of all fees before listing your item. Be sure to read the fine print as most fees are generally hidden. To avoid fees, try these simple tips. Instead of paying to have extra photos, use Photobucket and put the pictures in the description for free. Instead of paying to have your auction start at a later time, use Auctiva, which will automatically submit your listing to eBay when you want for free. Instead of paying for templates, also use Auctiva. It is a great FREE tool.

 

Copyright

Be aware of all copyright laws. Infringing on a copyright may result in removal of auction, and potential prosecution from the company. Always be careful while using stock photos, as many of these are copyrighted. Do not steal others pictures, descriptions, etc as this is against most auction sites rules and if they are copyrighted, you would be breaking the law.

 

Keeping these simple tips in mind while trading online will help lead to a sucessful online experience for both you and your customers!
